Quick Facts

Test and certify copper to Category 7, and test fiber, too!

Tests up to 900 MHz, enabling testing of future applications such as 10-Gigabit Ethernet, Class F, and CATV.

Ensures that cable installations comply with TIA/ISO standards.

Further Details

The 12-second CAT6 autotest is three times faster than standard testers.

Exceeds requirements for Category 5e and 6 with Accuracy Level IV.

         Exceeds Category 7 specs.

Includes a removable 16 MB MMC card.

Advanced time-saving diagnostics—including fast setup and reporting—pinpoint faults anywhere on the link and suggest corrective actions.

Rugged construction and a sturdy case to survive hard field use.

Large color display is backlit for easy viewing.

Has 12-hour battery life for a full day of testing.

Optional fiber modules enable you to switch between copper and fiber with the push of a button.

The 12-second fiber autotest (with optional module) is five times faster than standard testers.

Includes serial and USB cables for additional testing.

The Fluke Networks® DTX-1800 CableAnalyzer™ is the most capable tester around! It efficiently tests and certifies copper to Category 7 and adapts easily to fiber as well. And because it tests to 900 MHz, you're set for whatever new technology comes your way—even 10-Gigabit Ethernet over copper.

Testing on the high end.

Unlike most testers, which are designed only to meet Accuracy Level III, the DTX-1800 exceeds Accuracy Level IV specifications. That ensures more precise results over the full frequency range.

Accuracy Level IV tests only to 600 MHz, but the DTX-1800 tests in even higher ranges, up to 900 MHz. This extended bandwidth supports ISO Class F links, as well as emerging standards like 10-Gigabit Ethernet over twisted pair. It also enables you to certify links for other applications, such as video distribution over twisted pair.

Easy to use.

The intuitive graphic interface is easy to follow and the rotary dial makes selecting a test mode simple. If you have DTX Fiber Modules installed, you can switch between copper and fiber at the touch of a button.

A talk feature enables you to communicate with your test partner at the other end of the link over copper or fiber.

Advanced diagnostics.

The DTX-1800 features advanced troubleshooting capabilities. If a link fails, the tester provides quick and easy-to-understand directions, which identify the point of failure (distance from the tester) and the possible reason(s) for the failure.

It not only tells you what the problem is, but also identifies corrective actions you can take to solve the problem quickly. Instead of spending time executing trial and error corrections—and retesting to find out whether the problem has been resolved—you know exactly where to look and what to do to fix the failing link.

The cable tone generator generates tones that can be detected by a tone probe such as our Network Probe (TS155-R3). (For details, contact our FREE Tech Support.) The tones are generated on all pairs with a frequency of 440 to 831 Hz.

Store and manage test results.

The tester's internal memory stores up to 250 graphical CAT6 test results or up to 2000 reports in text format. A removable memory card stores up to another 300 graphical CAT6 test results. Just connect to the tester's USB port to download the test results to your PC.

The LinkWare Software for PC (included with all models) enables you to quickly organize, edit, view, print, save, or archive test results by job site, customer, campus building, and more. You can merge test results into an existing database and then sort, search, and organize by any number of data fields or parameters.

Intelligent construction.

The DTX-1800 CableAnalyzer is portable, lightweight, and ergonomic, yet rugged enough for heavy use. The case is made of high-impact plastic with a shock-absorbing overmold that stands up to tough field conditions.

The large, easy-to-read color display has a bright backlight and is 3.7" (9.4 cm) diagonally, 240 dots wide by 320 dots high.

The tester has input protection to guard against continuous telco voltages and 100-mA overcurrent. Occasional ISDN overvoltages do not cause damage.

The lithium ion battery has a 12-hour life for a full day of testing.

Verify link connectivity and network availability!

The DTX Network Service Module (DTX-NSM) (sold separately) works with the DTX-1800 to go one step beyond certifying each cabling link—it also verifies link connectivity and network availablility. Simply plug the module into the back of the cable analyzer's main unit. The DTX-NSM, when used with the cable analyzer, follows the most recent industry recommendations for documenting test results. After it certifies the cable links and verifies link connectivity and network availability, it creates one consolidated report that details results from all three test types.

Test fiber, too!

Just order the optional DTX Fiber Kits and you have fiber testing in your arsenal!

Because the fiber modules are installed in a special compartment on the back of the DTX-1800 CableAnalyzer, they're always conveniently on-board—you never lose time searching for your fiber adapter. And unlike traditional fiber adapters that share an adapter with the twisted-pair connection, these fiber modules have their own dedicated digital interface. This means you can quickly switch between copper and fiber with a touch of a button.

Just press the Autotest button and automatically test two fibers, each at two wavelengths. The test measures length and determines pass or fail status—all in about 12 seconds. The kits deliver complete Tier 1 certification: loss, length, and polarity. They validate fiber link performance and installation quality, measure optical loss at multiple wavelengths, measure fiber length, and verify polarity.
